The common stereotype of is hard working Germans and the laid back TV watching Americans is not true. From experiences that Americans are generally much more hard working than Germans. For example, it is not uncommon to meet people who work two 40-hours-a-week jobs, or who work full time while also taking a full-time course load at a college. Both are completely non-existent in Germany (there are rules against working too much, intended to protect workers; two full-time jobs are not allowed). Many Germans work only 35 hours a week, others 37.5, all take long vacations, and I estimate that over the whole year, the average German with a job works about two thirds the hours of the average working American. In the US, it is quite common that people who are not paid by the hour work much longer than the 40 hours per week that they are obliged to. Even though many large and successful employers liberally lay off workers to increase profits and appease Wall Street, employees in the US exhibit a rather strange loyalty to their employers. Essay about The Theme of Revenge Throughout Odyssey

Revenge is a reoccurring theme throughout the Odyssey. Nearly every motivation for conflict within the Odyssey is because one of the characters is craving revenge. The three main areas of revenge in the first twelve books are as follows. Initially, Zeus prevents Odysseus and his men from returning home. Poseidon also continually chastises Odysseus throughout the entire story. Finally, the key account of revenge the reader sees in the story is from Telemachus in that he feels the need to make the suitors compensate for their impudence to his house as well as his mother. Therefore, each of the characters in the story is put through many hardships which pushes them to seek revenge. She pleaded with her father, Zeus, to allow Odysseus to go home and reunite with his family. At this point Zeus finally chose to help Odysseus reach home. Regrettably, Zeus was not the only one holding Odysseus back. In addition to Zeus, Poseidon held Odysseus at fault for blinding his son, the Cyclops. Although, Odysseus and his men had to fight off the Cyclops to survive Poseidon still blamed Odysseus for faulting his son after the fact. When Odysseus and his men arrived they found a monster’s cave which they entered and were unable to locate the host. They observed his cave and found many types of cheeses which they indulged themselves in. When the Cyclops returned, â€Å"he hoisted overhead a tremendous, massive slab—no twenty-two wagons, rugged and four-wheeled, could budge that boulder off the ground.† (Homer, 362). The Cyclops, feeling no conscious, ate many of Odysseus’ men. Finally, Odysseus decided to take action. He realized they needed the Cyclops to move the door, but needed to stay alive as well. After the Cyclops had been blinded the men hid under his sheep as they wandered out into the pasture. The opinions sometimes are in agreement but also the opinions sometimes conflict especially where the authors use retail businesses in different industries (Pantano, 2014). This study is interested in exploring the work of authors who focused their studies on the factors affecting the retail businesses especially the fresh fruits and vegetables. The major concepts and studies under consideration in identifying the factors affecting the performance of retail businesses include the management theories, the marketing theories, the industry of the retail business, competition and health factors. Management theories. The management of the business plays a very critical role in the performance of the business. The management of the organization can propel the organization to a greater success or even cripple the business. Employing the right management style will motivate the staff and lead to greater performance. Right management will be able to come up with SMART organizational goals which will give the retail business a sense of direction (Huarng, Ribeiro-Soriano, 2014). The goals of the business should also be communicated well to avoid conflicting goals which may prevent good performance. The performance of the retail business will be improved if the management clearly communicates the goals of the organization as the employees will be aware of the tasks they are supposed to accomplish and achieving the targets will motivate them. The business should ensure that its products are of high quality to attract more customers. Directive management style will cause the employee to feel uncomfortable as they fear to be punished if they do not achieve their targets. This creates a poor working environment and the employee will not perform their duties well. The business should, therefore, use participative and affiliate management styles to solve management problems that affect the performance of the retail business. The other notable finding is that the management should employ the marketing strategies that will enable its products to be recognized. The firm should know the best times to reduce the prices to attract more customers, the time to offer customers discounts to encourage repeat and bulk purchases. The company should always set the most appropriate selling price to attract more customers and also make a profit. This will help the organization to solve the problems associated with setting the selling price of the products which have a direct influence on the performance of the retail business. The study findings will be useful to all the retail businesses in New Zealand and to potential entrepreneurs who wish to venture into the business of selling fresh fruits and vegetables like Fenton Quality Produce Ltd. The investors will be able to know that their business is affected by weather conditions and it is seasonal so they will have all the knowledge needed so that they can make the right decisions that will help them to prosper. The investors will also know that they should invest more resources in storage facilities because the products of the business are perishable and they require proper storage facilities so that they can be fresh always.
